SYNOPSIS

Steve Allgood's life is a picture of good health.

He also has terminal brain cancer. At the age of 28, on the eve of his wedding, Allgood was informed he had a tumour on his brain stem and spinal cord, and that it would kill him in a matter of months. In spite of the diagnosis, he and his wife Jennie decided to have kids. As the days and months went by, Steve couldn’t shake the reality of his situation. He eventually lost the will to live and contemplated suicide.

This is the story of the mental health toll of a terminal diagnosis, and how the innovative use of psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy can restore a passion for living, especially as no one can truly predict a cancer patient’s length of survival.

About the film

Steve Allgood was contemplating ending his life until he took a friend’s advice and tried magic mushrooms. It was no fluke—psilocybin has been shown to dramatically reduce depression, anxiety and existential dread. He now pursues it legitimately in Canada through a little-known government program that provides psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy to terminally ill patients.

Creative Team

Honestly I would have killed myself already if I didn’t have access to this treatment. Or I would have given up and let myself die because this treatment has been overwhelmingly positive for changing my mind on how to live life with cancer.
